The Women’s Library is entirely volunteer run, and we welcome enquiries from women who would like join our team.
No special skills are necessary, though all staff are required to help patrons and make visitors feel welcome. On a typical day, volunteer staff attend to regular library duties, such as cleaning, shelving, tidying the collection, and lending and returning books. Depending on your interests, you might also help with administration, book and film reviews, grant applications, and promotional work. The longer you stay with us as a volunteer, the more you will be able to take on responsibilities and undertake varied work.
We require a six month commitment from volunteers to ensure we can provide professional service to our members and patrons. Once accepted, you will be rostered to work with experienced staff so that you can learn on the job. Shifts are available on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis, during the week and on weekends. Volunteers also help with organising and running special events.
If you are interested in applying, the first step is to complete an Expression of Interest form. When we receive your application, you will be asked to attend an orientation session where you can ask any questions you may have, discuss your interests, and agree on the next step. All volunteers must support the aims of the organisation, and be eligible to to become a member of The Women’s Library.
