Their Finest is the final film for 2021. Adapted by Gaby Chiappe from Lissa Evans’ novel, “Their Finest Hour and a Half”, The Finest has a wonderful crew including composer Rachel Portman, editor Lucia Zuccehetti, along with Alice Normington, and Charlotte Walter as production and costume designers. It was produced by Finola Dwyer, Christine Langan, Amanda Posey, and Stephen Woolley, and directed by Lone Scherfig.
This film reveals how propaganda films were made in Britain during the war years, along with attitudes and expectations at the time — “A lot of men are scared we won’t go back into our boxes when this is over.” — as people navigated the horror of London being bombed, and the reality of living with unexpected death daily. It’s revealing, funny, and surprising in places.
